Have you ever wondered what sleep tourism is and how it could transform your travel experience? In this newsletter I’ll share what sleep tourism is, and my recent sleep tourism experience. This emerging trend in wellness travel is gaining popularity as more people recognize the importance of quality rest, even while on vacation. Sleep tourism combines the joy of exploring new destinations with a focus on improving your sleep habits and overall well-being. Whether you're a busy professional looking to recharge or simply someone who values a good night's rest, this new way of traveling might be just what you need to find balance and return home feeling truly refreshed.
The Rise of Sleep Tourism
Sleep tourism has gained significant popularity in recent years, with an increasing number of sleep-focused stays appearing in hotels and resorts worldwide. Interest in this trend has skyrocketed since the pandemic. The travel industry has shifted its focus to cater to those suffering from sleep deprivation, with many high-profile establishments offering specialized amenities and services. This change reflects a growing awareness of wellness and well-being among travelers. A study published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine found that 40% of adults reported a reduction in their sleep quality since the start of the pandemic (1). As a result, the sleep tourism market is estimated to grow by nearly 8% and over 400 billion USD between 2023 and 2028 (2).
Sleep Tourism for Different Traveler Types
Sleep tourism caters to various traveler types, offering unique experiences to enhance rest. For busy professionals seeking stress management, hotels provide specialized amenities like smart beds with adjustable comfort levels and sleep-tracking technology. Wellness enthusiasts can enjoy sleep-focused retreats with yoga, meditation, and spa treatments designed to improve sleep quality. Families might opt for spacious suites with blackout curtains and soundproofing. Adventure seekers can combine outdoor activities with sleep-enhancing experiences, such as stargazing before bed. Luxury travelers can indulge in high-end sleep programs with personalized consultations and cutting-edge sleep technology. By tailoring experiences to different needs, sleep tourism aims to help all types of travelers return home feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
How I Planned my Sleep Tourism Experience
This year I celebrated my birthday with a solo staycation. I took my commitment of relaxing to the next level by using the travel design company Truly Travl’d. Travel designer, Aneatrice made the process extremely easy. I completed the intake form and she took care of the rest! Since I booked with Aneatrice I received VIP perks that enhanced my luxury sleep wellness experience at the Intercontinental Buckhead Atlanta. Watch the recap more details!
The rise of sleep tourism reflects a broader shift towards prioritizing health and wellness in our daily lives. Next time you plan a trip consider including a sleep tourism experience.
